As organizations accelerate their adoption of artificial intelligence, it becomes necessary to introduce records at scale into AI-enabled systems and workflows. This shift has changed the role of records managers and archivists. Rather than protecting only static paper collections or digital repositories, information professionals increasingly need to govern the records and data used to train, inform, and support AI-powered tools. This session will examine how records professionals can help ensure that agency AI initiatives are built upon compliant, secure, trustworthy, and well-managed information. It positions records managers as essential participants in AI governance, privacy, retention, risk management, and validation.

Topics to cover during the meeting:

  • Defensible Data Minimization: Limiting AI access to necessary records and reducing the risk created by irrelevant, outdated, duplicated, or poorly managed information
  • Modernizing Retention for AI: Updating retention and disposition practices so AI tools did not ingest or rely upon expired, obsolete, or unauthorized records
  • Advocating for Information Privacy: Communicating privacy requirements to information technology teams and vendors so AI systems protected sensitive government and citizen information
  • Validating AI Output: Defining the records manager’s role in human-in-the-loop processes that help keep AI-generated content accurate, authentic, reliable, and trustworthy

Registration for this meeting is required and the deadline to register is November 17 at 10:00 a.m. ET. Information on how to join the Zoom meeting will be sent with your meeting registration confirmation.
